Splash Page Advertising, Yes Or No?

Last night, while trying to relax and unwind from a rather busy day, I was kicking back on the couch and reading an article posted within the Multichannel Merchant periodical, I get from time to time to try and keep up with the going on's of the business world, in this particular article it was talking about store front design and the do's and don'ts of web advertising.

It really sent my head spinning into confusion when they stated basically, "Splash pages are more of a detourant, than of any real help for those conducting business online, because it's just one more thing potential customers have to click on to get to your site." Now since my first beginnings as a traffic exchange user, I don't have enough fingers (or toes) to count all the times I have seen and heard the many rave reviews about splash page advertising and how by using a splash page users received more customers and sign-ups than what they were receiving prior to using a splash page.

So this is where the confusion starts, I try to take in all views on certain manners of advertising and base my advertising campaigns by what I have concluded in my own thoughts (sometimes that can be dangerous, amongst other things..lol =P) and give it a go. Since I'm just really beginning with splash page advertising (as of yesterday morning to be exact), it has made me start to wonder if splash page advertising is all it's cracked up to be? Are people just blowing smoke, to get people to actually use the sometimes free service or to pay for splash page creation software? Am I just wasting time and energy on creating something that may produce little to no results at all? Or.....?

It's amazing how one article can set in motion so much confusion and thinking in an entirely different direction, but I guess to really learn a valuable lesson, these are things one must think about to make the appropriate judgement.

For now though, I will continue on with the splash page advertising campaign I have started and see how it turns out. After all, as one person told me, "The only real critic you need to listen to, is the one you carry around inside your head."

  • It's placement and timing. For TE, yes splash pages are the way to go. If your going to advertise on a general public site, use a direct link. Use relevent links on your splash pages. If your advertising a certian product, don't link to the home page, link to that product your promoting. You find success on wisely thought out campaign.
